Cybersecurity expert shares insights with Scottsdale Chamber members
Members of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce were enlightened about the increasing risks in our digital world by national cybersecurity expert Tim Roemer, who is the former Arizona Director of Homeland Security. Now in private consulting, Roemer shared his thoughts on threats to the business world at a recent monthly breakfast event at the U of A Scottsdale Center.
Among the "bad actors" he discussed were nation-states going after compromising systems, like the 2020 SolarWinds hack that affected thousands of organizations, including the U.S. government. Other threats are cyber criminals who go after the healthcare industry for monetary gain, and hactivists, who mainly operate for political gain and have the capabilities of nation-states.
Takeaways: train employees, be careful about what you share in social media and don't pay ransoms (because they'll just come back for more!).
